Petzl Ascension Handled Ascender, Right

The newly improved ASCENSION is used for self-belaying on fixed ropes, as a handle when you need to pull on a rope, as well as for ascending ropes. Hand grip insulates hand in cold conditions, is large enough to take a bulky glove, and the safety catch can be operated with one gloved hand.

The ASCENSION features a lug which helps prevent the rope from pulling the cam through the top of the ascender in the event of shock-loading. Lower carabiner attachment hole is rated to 20 kN (4496 Ibf). Actual ascender strength in the field is dependent on the rope used. Smaller diameter (<10 mm) and/or dynamic ropes may fail as low as 950 Ibf without damage to the ascender.

In Petzl's fall factor one test on a 176 Ibf (80 kg) drop on 11mm static kernmantle rope, neither the ascender nor the rope fails. Larger loads, greater falls or smaller or softer rope will result in severe rope damage or total failure.

Each ascender is factory proof test loaded to 4.89 kN (1100 Ib).

NOTE All camming and toothed rope grabs and ascenders can cause significant damage to ropes if shock loaded such as when stopping a falling load and must not be used where such events are possible. This damage can occur at forces well below the rated breaking strength of the equipment involved. Rope damage can also occur if force applied to the device exceeds the maximum rated load or if used for applications beyond the operating parameters as stated by the manufacturer.

Ascenders and rope grabs are for use on rope ONLY. They must never be used on cable.
