MSA 4:1 Rescue Utility System

A 4:1 mechanical advantage system designed for raising and lowering people or equipment in rescue and industrial work access such as confined space.

The versatile system is virtually maintenance free, designed for rapid deployment and rated for two person loads. The heart of the system is the design of the double pulleys. The sheaves of the pulleys have a built-in anti-reversing lock which allows a load to be raised with a normal 4:1 mechanical advantage but which lock when the load is lowered.

By locking substantially less effort is required (i.e. 10 lbf to hold a 220 lb [90kg] load) and greater control is gained by using the friction/brake action to provide braking while lowering. The system can be used by one person to self-lower and raise or one rescuer can lower and raise a two person load. A short securing rope with a mechanical ascender attached to the operating rope eases hauling and allows a secure lock-off of the system.
