Petzl STOP Descender

This special device automatically stops or considerably slows descent when the handle is released. Descend normally by squeezing the handle, controlling speed with the other hand.

NOTE the handle should not be used to control descent speed.

The stopping mechanism can be disabled with a carabiner when not desired, such as in a narrow pit where the user needs the use of a hand to negotiate the drop. A spring keeps the lever in when the descender is not in use.

All control surfaces are stainless steel. Slack rope can be taken up easily. Diagram engraved on the device shows correct threading. Safety catch allows rope to be inserted or removed without unclipping device from the harness.

Designed for Kernmantle ropes from 9 to 12 mm and works best with flexible, clean rope. When used with some stiff low stretch ropes friction is greatly reduced and `Stop' feature may be impaired or inoperative.
